EFFECTIVE THINKING SKILLS

Everything you can think of today, big or small, started with one line of thought or the other. It has even been established that “As one thinks, so he or she will be”. Therefore, it is not out of tune that a huge amount of attention is given to an integral part of what gives birth to several beautiful ideas- Your thoughts.
Thinking has been said to be an “aim-oriented flow of ideas and associations that can lead to a reality-oriented conclusion”. However, the river of ideas and thinking process flows differently in people as each person thinks uniquely solely because everyone is configured or wired differently.

The direction one thinks will ultimately determine one’s next line of action irrespective of the outcome of such thought(s), be it positive or negative, but nothing beats an intentional determination to toll the path of positive thinking.

Apart from the guarantee of building a positive mental attitude, a positive thinking pattern will always enhance creativity and innovation which is not only considered a great gain for personal growth and effectiveness but also the greater good of one’s team and the organization at large.

Thinking patterns are in different shapes and this understanding will truly enhance the path of your actions.

Let us consider some of thinking patterns;

~ Big Picture Thinking: Ability to think beyond yourself and your world.
~ Focused Thinking: Ability to think with clarity by removing distraction/clutter.
~ Creative Thinking: Ability to break out of your ‘’box’’ and explore new ideas.
~ Realistic Thinking: Ability to build a solid foundation on facts and reality.
~ Strategic Thinking: Ability to implement plans that increases future potential.
~ Possibility Thinking: Ability to unleash enthusiasm or hope to solve the impossible.
~ Reflective Thinking: Ability to revisit the past and gain perspective to forge ahead.

~ Shared Thinking: Ability to go beyond your thoughts and embrace others.
~ Unleashed Thinking: Ability to consider others, and to think with collaboration.
~ Bottom-line Thinking: Ability to focus on results and reap the best rewards.

So now, it’s time to assess yourself with these questions:

1. Which of the thinking patterns above best describes your thinking pattern?
2. Do you have a place and time that affords you the comfort and great atmosphere to do your best thinking?

If our thinking process holds a vital role in shaping our actions, then it is worth all intentionality it deserves. Remember, no one becomes bigger and better than the quality of his or her thought.
