OUTREACH

Amidst global pandemic, economic hardship and civil unrest as a result of police brutality and bad governance – Nigeria entered her second recession in five years after just coming out of the lockdown in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In Nigeria, many people weren’t in a position to prepare anyway, even without a time constraint, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), in a report about poverty and inequality from September 2018 to October 2019, said 40 percent of people in the continent’s most populous country lived below its poverty line of 137,430 naira ($360.47) a year. It said that represents 82.9 million people.

In 2020 with extreme poverty rate, unemployment and rising inflation in the country of nearly 200 million people means that more Nigerians are unable to afford food, according to data from Nigeria’s data agency. The World Food Programme already sees COVID-19 doubling the number of people facing food crises unless swift action is taken. This is already a reality in Nigeria!

In response to these challenges, Vision International Christian Ministries is working with non-governmental organizations to provide food and relief materials for families in need and in areas mostly affected including low-income communities, hard to reach rural areas and people displaced by the Boko haram terror war at IDPs camp.

Over the next six months, we are targeting and projecting to reach 12,500 households and people in IDP camps, rural and poor communities with food and relief materials, essential needs, soft grants and empowers children to get an education with back to school goodies bags.
